Prospecting for Leads-don’t You Just Hate Cold Calling?
Prospecting can be done in many ways through various marketing techniques. A few examples are the internet, offline marketing, cold calling (which is the hardest way and nobody likes), direct mail campaigns, classified ads along with other methods. Either way you have to constantly get new customers funneling through some kind of system.
What I really want to touch here is cold calling. There are a few things in life people would rather avoid for instance death, taxes, car shopping, public speaking and I have included cold calling, the dreaded telephone.
I can tell you from my personal own personal experience when I first got started in this business I went the cold calling route because I was not taught about marketing, like everyone else. The telephone would weight about 1000 lbs. I just could not pick it up. I would sit there and stare at the phone for about 20 minutes my heart pounding in total and complete fear. I could not pick up the phone it was just dreadful, the feeling of impending doom.
When I would muster up enough nerve to pick up the phone I would dial the numbers and then hang up. Then I would get to the point of dialing the whole number and as soon as I would hear the other person’s voice I was petrified. I was a nervous wreck. I felt like I was thrown into a den of wolves, frozen with fear. The worst part of it was that I was pending money on leads and getting nowhere.
Has this ever happened to you? I do know it happens to a lot of people.
This happens to people because they are not taught the true art of marketing. I had to go out and find this out on my own. It is sad but true that most home business companies do not teach real marketing. That is why I believe that about 90% of the people who start their own business fail within the first few months and never come back. Then they tell everyone they know the business does not work and 100s even 1000s of people never give the greatest business model in the business world today a try.
Now there are people out there who do not mind cold calling, you might be one of those, I know I am not. Most people would rather not go that route. If you know the true art of marketing you don’t have to do any cold calling at all. Once you discover true marketing it is almost common sense.
